The French atrocity

“Against pencils, charcoal pencils and [speech] bubbles – they took out Kalashnikovs. What a declaration of weakness! When one does not have arguments, they fire a shot. So did they kill Charlie? No. They missed. Charlie will live, thanks to its readers.” (Liberation, Paris)

“The terror attack on Charlie Hebdo is an attack on the entire system of our values, which, despite its faults, glorifies the greatest freedom of the individual, the person’s dignity, freedoms and respect for human rights.” (El Mundo, Madrid. Both quotes from the BBC)

Religious extremism is the curse of our age. Set aside all the excuses – colonialism, dictatorial government, unemployment, lousy living standards, rotten education, manipulation by muftis, mullahs and preachers. All irrelevant. Killing because of a cartoon is a sick atrocity.
