  1. I don’t believe that Bush has bad intentions in this respect. I just think he underestimated the inate conservatism of the middle east; the people there do not necessarily want democracy, so trying to overthrow dictators of their behalf won’t make them freer. When the Egyptians were given democracy, they voted for the Muslim Brotherhood. When the Palestinians were given democracy, they voted either for Fatah (corrupt anti-Semitic authoritarians who refuse to compromise in the peace process) or Hamas (Islamist terrorists bent on Israel’s destruction.) Many Iraqis and Syrians support ISIS. Many Afghans support Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. I don’t think we can impose freedom on a people who do not want it.
