  1. This is absolutely terrible news! There’s nothing wrong with a drink or two. If you get drunk then its your problem, not anyone else’s problem (apart from drink driving.) But otherwise, a pint in a pub is a great British tradition, its decline is lamentable. As for London, I can only say that it longer feels like a British city. Its become far richer and far more diverse than the rest of the country. This means that culturally its going to be very different, alcohol consumption rates notwithstanding.

  2. I do agree with you. The pub is a great British institution and I think it enhances a spirit of community. In other countries there are few places where you can go and have an enjoyable evening discussing issues with people who, otherwise, you would never meet.
