Immigration

In London 51% of the116,019 live births in 2005 were to a mother born overseas. By any measure this is an amazing statistic, and explains why immigration is the main, sometimes the only, topic of social conversation.  Britain is now a country so diverse that those in their middle age do not recognize it.  Thousands are voting with their feet and going to France or Spain or Australia or New Zealand, where they feel at home.

This is not good for ataraxia.  Maybe it is harmless, maybe a good thing, but the people of middle England don’t think so.

  1. Much as I personally lean towards a liberal view of politics, I do find myself resenting the cavalier attitude that dictates that the ancient culture and way of life of my country should be casually overturned without a whiff of consultation.
Those who resent imperialism and the bossiness of empires have wrought this thing, and the people don’t like it, any more than Indians liked being dictated to by the british under the Raj. Quite understandable. It will not lead to happiness or contentment and lacks common sense.
