Brassed off with your spouse and wanting a divorce? A bit short of cash to pay for your wedding? Like a birthday party at other people’s expense? Then come to America, where the latest “in” thing is to have a fundraiser.  A growing number of women, going through divorce proceedings,  are running these fundraisers to pay court costs during divorce and custody hearings. You get your friends to ask (blackmail?) their friends to pony up with money.

Money, money, money!  I’m sure Epicurus liked the idea of being financially secure. Who wouldn’t?  But coming on to your friends and total strangers to finance your divorce  gives the word “tacky” a whole new meaning.  Now some people are apparently having fundraisers to pay for their kid’s college tuition, engagement parties, graduation celebrations , and anything that costs more than a meal of hamburger and fries.

Epicurus believed in friends and friendship.  People who ask for money to fund key life events are not friends, they are creeps.
