Fighting ignorance and prejudice

A few months ago the Sisters of Mary, a Catholic organization based in Ohio,  made a video claiming that contraception makes women unattractive to men, makes them murderers,  that it turns men gay and that it makes them have sex with dogs (this is not a joke. They genuinely said it.  Visit www.comeunityintruth.com )

The nuns site a study in which a male chimp rejected his sexual  partners after they were injected with contraceptives, eventually turning to other males in the group, such was his “confusion”.  This deserves a riposte, sent some weeks ago as follows:

Madam,

You have made the error of using apes, or one ape at least, to illustrate human behavior.
Are you not aware of modern Church teaching?   You quote a “study” of some chimpanzees. What have chimps got to do with human sexuality?  Absolutely nothing .  They are inferior creations of the Almighty.  Pope Benedict has reminded us that animals have nothing in common with God’s greatest creation – Man. The ungodly talk about Darwin, but Darwin’s theory of evolution is just that, a theory, whereas the Old Testament is the Word of God.  Likewise, so-called “biologists” claim that we share 96% of our genes with the apes – this  also is just a theory.
Studies by Catholic scholars and 18th Century Irish bishops have shown that that the world was created about six thousand years ago, and that man appeared on Earth at that time, made in the image of God. exactly as he is, and that dynosaur bones are prefabricated.  By introducing the behavior of a single ape to illustrate the effects of human contracepting (sic) you have introduced faulty evidence, betrayed one of the principle tenets of the modern Church and made us all a laughing stock.  Apes indeed!
I would also take issue with you over homosexuality.  Some studies have shown that homosexuality is natural in all species and that people are born that way and can’t help it.  This is incorrect.  Homosexuality is caused by encouraging young people to join single-sex religious orders and forbidding priests to marry.  There is more recent evidence of this than there is that “contracepting”, as you call  it,  makes women unattractive.
