Wrecking the country and the planet

Between 2002 and2010 $118 million has been doled out to 102 think tanks, obscure policy forums, contrarian Harvard professors and activist groups to fund the discrediting of climate science. All are determined to prevent cuts to greenhouse gas emissions. The money is funneled through two organizations, Donors Trust and Donors Capital Fund, who “promote liberty, limited government, personal responsibility and free enterprise”.

This money, like so much other political money is given in complete anonimity. The donors are untraceable, and the two organizations named above have the benefit to the extremists who fund them that they are convenient, cheaper to run than private foundations and are tax deductible. Think of that – these people are getting tax deductions at our expense for helping to destroy the planet as we know it, in order to make even more money. Yes, it is all about money. The people responsible should be made to pay tax on their activities at full marginal rate.

It is a disgrace. But for Epicureans there is nothing one can usefully do about it, except to point out to anyone who will listen that every genuine, qualified, experienced scientist in the world agrees that human activity has produced a spike in global temperatures that cannot possibly be ascribed solely to natural causes. It is an ugly world when greed-obsessed donors, who rule the country, fill their pockets at our expense, trashing scientific expertise.

  1. What sort of world will our grandchildren inherit, and how will they view the people who advocate doing absolutely nothing? I guess the money-people don’t care a damn about the future , or about the lives of their own grandchildren.
