“The past conduct of the suspected white supremacists so alarmed investigators that their names had been previously entered into the national Terrorist Screening Database, a massive collection of individuals flagged as potential security risks, according to people familiar with evidence gathered in the FBI’s investigation.
The presence of so many watchlisted individuals in one place ( the Capitol) — without more robust security measures to protect the public — is another example of the intelligence failures preceding last week’s deadly assault, some current and former law enforcement officials argued”. My comment: Peace of mind is hard to sustain when you understand how pervasive the hatred and resentment is in the country. The parallels with the revolutions of the 20s and 30s are inescapable .I never thought this could ever happen in the United States.
“White supremacist” is another of the watchwords the Democrats and leftists are using as part of their agenda to demonize everything “conservative”. I remember decades ago seeing people (often soldiers, police, even politicians) quoted as saying, “I disagree with your opinion but I will fight to the death for your right to express it.” The mantra these days, under the leftist flag, is, “You have the right to express your opinion, as long as it doesn’t offend anybody.” Because of my “strict constructionist” perspective, I’m obliged to point out that the First Amendment’s language about free speech does not include the proviso about “doesn’t offend anybody”. However, were I to voice support for somebody’s right to publish something that’s deemed offensive, I would risk being branded a white supremacist, misogynist, racist or whatever derogatory label might apply, depending on the subject matter of the item sought to be published. This is because my support of the right to publish would be construed, however erroneously, as support of the opinion that’s sought to be published. Worse, I would run the risk of being labeled a “terrorist” and placed on watch lists.
