Do the following rate as torture? Sleep deprivation, being kept in a cell in extremely low temperatures, being made to stand up with your hands tied to the ceiling, being slapped around the head, water-boarding, extra-bright lights and blaring “music” all day and all night?
Is it o.k if we do it, but not if they do it? And is this post political?
Just asking.
Of course it depends on your social and political outlook. If you believe that God Himself has chosen and supports the US as His factotum on Earth, then clearly you must support any measure that will confound Satan.
Comment from across the pond again….Wow! you American Epicureans are somewhat cynical?? or (shudder) are you reflecting the sincerely held opinions of some American public? If so, Arrogant Empires have a habit of disappearing into the sand. ” I am Oxymandias, King of Kings – look upon me and despair….. and the empty sands stretch far away”
I asked the question, “Is it o.k if we do it, but not if they do it?” not “it is” .
There are people who sincerely believe that any measures are justified in fighting terrorism. These are the people who behave like hysterics, influenced by a right-wing media bent upon terrifying everyone for political ends.
The reality is that Queda will never be more than an irritant to the US. Terrorism has barely emerged there. Where I do agree with some of the pundits is that nuclear weapons seized by Islamists in Pakistan could do for us all, including all Moslems.
When describing arrogant empires, I was referring to people who think that
U.S. is God’s factotum and they have the right to ‘the means justify the ends’
Are there people who believe that???
Oh, yes. Not educated people. I guess it goes along with creationism and racism (Thought process: We are better than you. Well, not me personally, but my lords and masters – – I am caught in their reflected glory )
