According to the Spectrem Group, 68% of American millionaires favour raising taxes on their fellow millionaires. Other research suggests that rich people don’t regard themselves as rich and think of themselves as part of the 99%. What part of an income of $330,000 annual income do they think excludes them from the 1%, for heavens sake. ($330,000 appears to be the accepted threshold of being part of the 1%). If they are so insensitive and sheltered from the world that they think they earn an average income, then they deserve whatever they get. Problem is, they won’t get it under the present corrupt system, and that is why the West will continue to decline, hastened by the people who claim to be making America great..
Taxation by itself cannot fix the growing wealth gap. Health and education and the obscene role of money in politics, along with rent-seeking monopolies and their fat-cat, overpaid “managers” are equally to blame. America is a stitch-up by the government and big business, and at some time in the future someone has to take out the scissors and start serious snipping. It will not be a pretty business, I can assure you! Revolutions seldom are.
And Epicurus? Epicureanism stands for moderation, for getting along together, for equality of opportunity. Not for socialism or communism, but modest differences in income. Extreme conditions breed extreme conditions. Duh!
