For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth the beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast; for all is vanity. All go to one place; all are of dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth (that) the spirit of man goeth upwards, and the spirit of the beast goeth downward to the earth?
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 Verses 19- 21
Careful. This is a vegetarian’s charter, aside from anything else! Not at all what the christian church teaches.
Good for Ecclesiastes, whoever he was. Centuries before his time. It seems we have not become much smarter with the ages.
Have those purporting to be christians actually read the bible, one wonders? Or do they just cherry-pick what suits them? (silly question – of course they do). How arrogant we humans are, with our “chosen people”, our special deals with god, and our superiority complexes!
During a recent conversation with a Jewish friend over dinner and a bottle of Italian red, we reminisced about the religious messages we heard in our youth. She learned that the Jews were the "chosen people" but I, that only Catholics went to heaven. We toasted Bacchus and laughed.
I always thought I was there already. Why wait?
