“Despite the enthusiastic example set by their former premier, Silvio Berlusconi, it appears that Italian men are going off sex. According to a study conducted by Rome’s Institute of Clinical Sexology, the number of Italian men seeking professional help for loss of libido has soared 40% in four years. “Until ten or 15 years ago it was the men who wanted sex. That’s not the case any more,” said Dr Roberta Rossi of the Institute. She links the drop in desire to social problems in Italy, and to men’s difficulties in adjusting to “changing roles in their relations with women”. (reported in The Week, December 2014)
It’s only a matter of attitude, Signore. Brought up in a macho society, where the ladies have been prey to be hunted down and their backsides pinched, it is natural that you feel out of sorts now that women are asking to be treated as human beings, not sex objects. I recommend reading up all you can find on the philosopher, Epicurus. You can make a start by dwelling on this very blog site; it has some good clues on behaviour.
Epicurus believed in moderation in all things and treating everyone as equals, and with respect. It doesn’t mean a huge change of mind. You are still allowed to fancy a good- looking woman; encouraged to, in fact. But you will be more successful these days buying her a companionable bottle of champagne; giving her flowers, taking an interest in her as a person, asking her questions, finding out something about her, treating her as a equal, not a hunted doe. In other words, wooing her! It’s fun, too. Try it! It will work a treat.
