60 % of British men, 50% per cent of women and 20% of primary school girls are expected to be obese by mid-century, and this will cost 45 billion pounds a year if nothing is done. Come on, Libertarians, do you think this is acceptable, and if not what would you do about it?
There is an article in today’s Washington Post about the extreme power of the sugar lobby, whose representatives are ubiquitous in Congress, making sure that the cash keeps growing to subsidize a product that is more productively grown at less cost in the tropics. Meanwhile, sugar/corn syrup is added to everything, even soup and low-calory yoghurt. Both political parties fall for this scam, but no one does anything about it. So kids get grosser-looking and the health costs escalate. Good one! What happened to free trade and the “free” market?
As was said as a comment in your lst entry “repente dives nemo factus est bonus” (Syrus)
Not being sorry for hiding the facts is a bonus
How can you hide these hideously fat people? Their children will grow up surrounded with obese and unhealthy slugs, and it will become socially o.k to be one. So by 2050 no American or Brit will be able to run 50 yards.
Epicureanism=tolerance, but only so far!
