Intellectuals. Are there any left? The people who used to be intellectuals are busy dumbing down universities and awarding A’s all round in an effort to boost enrollment. Their colleagues preach de-constructionism and relativism and are proud to have no standards of behaviour, ethics or morals whatsoever. Anything goes and intellectually it seems a lot of them went.
That leaves us, the second rank, the obscure, the tryers, the people of whom the real intellectuals of yesteryear said, “Ah, the 1962 intake, not a distinguished year.” Yes, here we are pontificating on the meaning of life and death in the absence of thought from others. Who would have thought it? In the land of the blind and increasingly illiterate the half-brained man is king.
Note to strict constructionists: This is a joke. I am a joke. Do something useful – go and clean your hunting rifle.
In case you are tempted to challenge my ranking as a Top Intellectual, at least admit I was able to string some words together to make an English sentence.
