Insect spies: just what the world does not need

image

This is an “insect spy drone”, already in production. This device can reportedly be
controlled from a great distance and is equipped with a camera and microphone. It can land on on you and is equipped with a needle capable of retrieving a DNA sample with the pain of a mosquito bite. It’s also capable of injecting a micro RFID tracking device under your skin.

When I first saw this photo and its explanation I thought, “Surely this must be a scam, or something dreamt up by Hollywood. What sort of human being could conceive such a device and pursue it to the point that it actually works?”

What has happened to human beings that we have become so cynical that, even if this is after all a huge practical joke (some joke!), I for one can readily believe that its existence is real? We are so inured to war, assassinations and killing that we simply assume that the CIA (or some other US government department) is spending our tax dollars on such immoral projects.

As a friend commented, “Big brother just got a lot smaller. And while the feds haven’t given them to our police departments yet, how long till they do?”

We need a massive injection of Epicureanism, Buddhism, common sense and basic ethics into public life. The future looks scary and it is being made scarier by people using our tax dollars.
(My thanks to Mahfouz Tadros for the information).
