Gas mileage

Only two cars sold in the US have a combined city/highway gas mileage of over 40 mile per gallon.  In 2005 there were five. By contrast, 113 such cars are available in overseas markets.  The irony is that two thirds of the actual fuel efficient cars are made by American manufacturers , but are not available in the United States.   The corporate average fuel economy standard (CAFE) is currently 27.5 mpg and has not been modified in almost two decades.*

  1. This is a perversion of the market and of the democratic process, money being spent behind closed doors in Congress to avoid the expense of doing the right and rational thing.

Epicureans support transparency and the good of the great majority, not the welfare of corporations too badly managed to stand up to Japanese, German and other competition. If GM and Ford cannot keep up with modern technology they should be allowed to go into bankruptcy
