  1. I have just returned from a trip to East Anglia (England). Beautiful countryside, delightful villages, bucolic atmosphere. What do you find? You find that they are going to build another runway for Stanstead Airport, one of the 4 London airports, slap in the middle of this wonderful countryside. Stanstead chiefly handles cheap holiday flights to the continent for the likes of Ryanair and Easyjet, and very little business traffic. The customers want to enjoy the beauty of the Swiss alps or the Tuscan countryside. They may love beauty, and who can begrudge them a holiday, but they are NOT doing it simply – – they are helping destroy gorgeous, unspoiled countryside and spewing millions of unnecessary tons of gunk into the atmosphere (air traffic being the worst of the CO2 polluters).

    Epicureans go by train! (

(Of course , if they are American the don’t always have that option, because collectively they don’t really believe in trains or public transport.)
