Stubbornness based on uninformed beliefs about politics translate to uninformed and stubborn beliefs about marriage, parenting, child care etc. Stubbornness is a pain to deal with in a relationship anyway, but when it arises from a place other than fact or reason, it’s an anger factory. It is painful to watch when a child is involved, and This Myth or That Myth is applied with extremist zeal, while the other parent wrestles with the following choice: watch helplessly or touch off an epic fight.

Wise Epicureans avoid getting involved with people who have immutable (and potentially damaging) ideas about relationships, parenting etc. The key is peace of mind, and you cannot achieve that if you are constantly at odds with your partner about fundamental issues. This seems obvious, but hordes of people, driven by loneliness, sex, whatever, rush into lifelong commitments, hoping all will work out, but not sure.
