Last night my wife and I attended a piano concert by Evgeny Kissin at the Kennedy Center. Even allowing for the tendency of Washington audiences to give standing ovations to anyone who turns up, this was a quite extraordinary concert, exquisitely played. At the end there were thirty (30) curtain calls that in all lasted fifty (50) minutes, and Kissin played no less than eight (yes, 8!) encores, mostly Chopin. I have no idea what the record is, but I doubt any performer has been greeted, or reacted, in quite such a way. The great are still with us, despite rumours to the contrary.
It seems that you were lucky enough to be at a musically transcendent moment. Was the concert recorded? including the eight encores?
I don’t know whether it was recorded, but can find out. Pity if it wasn’t, but I suppose not everything can be recorded. there was a man taking a video with his cellphone during the encores, but I don’t think I would want to watch or listen to it, except out of curiosity.
