  1. In Washington D.C we have had two tropical-type storms in the space of ten days. We have fared better than the many poor folk who live in the mid-West and who have lost their lives as a result of these self-same storms. Nonetheless, our gutters and down-pipes are blocked, water is streaming down the outside of the house and both our neighbors have had floods. Three inches of rain have fallen here in the last 12 hours.

    By themselves these storms are unexceptional. What is scary is their un-seasonality. It is supposed to be Spring. But there are numerous people who continue to dismiss global warming as some liberal plot to disadvantage big corporations. Extraordinary.
