Fooling the collectors most of the time

The artist brings the viewer face to face with their own pre-conceived hierarchy of cultural values and assumptions of cultural worth. Each mirror imaginatively propels its viewer forward into the seemingly infinite progression of possible reproductions that the artist’s practice engenders, whilst simultaneously pulling them backwards in quest for the “original” source or reverent that underlines Levine’s oeuvre.

This tripe refers to an exhibition in London of the work, (sorry, oeuvre) of the American artist Sherrie Levine. She showed a dozen small mirrors, precisely arranged, and a dozen small pink skulls in cases. Good for her. I’m sure they looked nice.
