When you are young, think about the good times that lie ahead. Do not fear the future. We can control some things, but we cannot control everything. Try not to fret about things you cannot control.

This is possibly the very best thing that Epicurus ever said, and something that needs repreating. If one can stop worrying about matters outside your control suddenly the world gets to be simpler and life less stressful. Malign forces are always a work trying to frighten us all about this life or the next. the trick is to ignore them.
Hurrah for Epicurus, the earliest and only (? any others?) philosopher or priest who has ever said it so forcefully.
